What is GPT-6 Intelligent UI? ChatGPT now answers with buttons
This week ChatGPT learned to hand you sliders, charts and tiny tools instead of just paragraphs. Here is what changed and who gets it.
This week ChatGPT learned to hand you sliders, charts and tiny tools instead of just paragraphs. Here is what changed and who gets it.
You asked for a recipe. You got a control panel.
Picture this. You ask ChatGPT for help with a Sunday roast for some friends, but you are not sure yet how many are coming. Instead of a wall of text, you get a plan with a little slider for the number of guests. Slide it from five to eight and the shopping list updates in front of you.
That is not a mock-up. It is one of the examples OpenAI used to show off Intelligent UI, which arrived with GPT-6 in ChatGPT this week.
What actually happened
On 7 October, OpenAI started rolling out GPT-6 in ChatGPT to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users. From 8 October it began reaching Free and Go users too. Paid plans run a version called GPT-6 Sol, and the free tiers get GPT-6 Luna. OpenAI says both are tuned for everyday conversation.
OpenAI had already introduced its first GPT-6 models to paid customers last month. This release brings GPT-6 to everyone using ChatGPT's Chat tab. That is a lot of people: OpenAI says more than 1.2 billion use ChatGPT every week.
So what is Intelligent UI?
In plain English, ChatGPT can now decide that the best answer to your question is not just words.
OpenAI says GPT-6 can compose responses using "text, visuals and interactive elements". Depending on what you ask, an answer can include graphics, charts, tappable buttons, forms and small interactive experiences you use right there in the chat.
The examples OpenAI gave are pleasingly everyday:
- A Sunday roast plan with the cooking timeline next to the recipe.
- A road trip with the stops shown on a map, plus notes on which detours are worth it.
- A savings calculator you can play with to see how money could grow.
- A bill splitter for dinner with friends.
- A game you can play inside the conversation.
It also knows when to keep things simple. If plain text is the most useful answer, OpenAI says that is what you will get. Nobody needs an interactive dashboard to tell them what time it is in Perth.
It is quicker, too
The other headline is speed. ChatGPT can now start answering while it is still thinking, instead of making you wait for the whole thing. OpenAI reports that GPT-6 Instant starts answering questions that need a web search 44% sooner, on average, than GPT-5.6 Instant.
That number is about how fast the answer starts, not how long the full answer takes. Still, anyone who has stared at a spinning "thinking" message will appreciate it.
"Where is mine?"
If you open ChatGPT and see nothing new yet, it is on its way. A few things to know:
- It is a staged rollout. OpenAI says it may not have reached your account yet.
- It is the Chat tab only. The models behind ChatGPT Work and Codex are not changing in this release.
- Work accounts depend on your admin. Enterprise availability depends on workplace settings.
Give it a few days and keep an eye on the model menu, where GPT-6 replaces the old "Latest" option.
What it means if you run a small business
You do not need to change anything today. But two small shifts are worth noticing.
First, people are getting used to answers they can tap, slide and play with. Customers who spend their evenings with interactive answers may start to expect a little more from the quotes, guides and help pages they get from you.
Second, quick throwaway tools are becoming normal. Need a one-off calculator for a pricing question, or a checklist for an event? You can now ask for one and use it on the spot, then forget about it.
One handy habit: if your team relies on ChatGPT for important templates, run a couple of them this week and see how they look with GPT-6. You might find some answers got even better.
Where Walter fits
Whichever tool draws the answer, the useful part is the business context behind it: your prices, your customers, your way of doing things. Walter is being built to pull that context together across the AI tools you already use, so the clever new answers are also the right ones for your business.
